We love working with the Playmobil team, having worked with them on the Back to the Future and Star Trek campaigns, so we were thrilled when they told us about an opportunity to work on a series of promotional videos for their 123 range in collaboration with Disney!
Each spot was only a few seconds, so we tried to come up with little stories and actions that would feel like they showcased the various products, but also captured the characters that people knew so well.
We set on a minimal style of animation quite early, because we wanted to represent the toys as toys you would play with, but take the idea of imaginative play by bringing them into realistic environments to conjure the nostalgia people had for them.
“The traditional illustrations helped set the foundations for this campaign. We loved the charm and warmth captured within the watercolours so wanted to carry it across in the final renders, whilst thinking it was a nice nod to the heritage of the brand.
With the desired look to be hyper-real / photoreal we used scanned data and high res assets to dress the scenes and sit the products comfortably in situ.” - Grant Berry, Art Director
