Our Story

lue Zoo was founded in 2000 by classmates Oli Hyatt, Adam Shaw and Tom Box whilst they were studying animation at Bournemouth University. Since its very first project ‘Blue Cow’, for the launch of CBeebies, Blue Zoo has gone on to become one of the UK’s leading animation studios, producing some of the most well-loved kids shows on TV, award-winning commercials, and animated short films renowned for unique visual storytelling and innovation.

As well as winning a host of animation awards, Blue Zoo has twice won the BAFTA for Independent Production Company of The Year and is a proud winner of the Best Places to Work in TV survey three times running by Broadcast and Best Companies Group.

In March 2019 Blue Zoo opened a second London studio dedicated to episodic 2D animation and in the future will be opening the doors to more studios in the regions, widening the talent pool.

Blue Zoo works tirelessly to push the UK animation industry forward, having established AnimationUK in 2008, which went onto successfully campaign for the introduction of animation tax reliefs, for which co-founder Oli Hyatt received an MBE. The studio continues to work closely with ACCESS:VFX, ScreenSkills, NextGen Skills Academy, Animated Women and many festivals, universities, colleges and schools to ensure a thriving, inclusive future for the whole industry.
