Numberblocks is an animated preschool series that teaches children basic math concepts through numbers and playful adventures.
Numberblocks is an innovative animated series created by BBC Children's Productions and Alphablocks Ltd. teaching young children about numbers and basic math concepts. Our team developed a unique visual style that personifies numbers as colourful, cube-shaped characters with distinct personalities. The challenge was to make abstract mathematical ideas tangible and engaging for a young audience.
Our approach combined creative character design, vibrant world-building, and a mix of 3D animation with 2D effects to create a visually rich and dynamic world. Working closely with education experts, we ensured each episode's storyline and visuals aligned with early years mathematics curricula. This careful balance of entertainment and education has been key to the show's success.
Since its launch in 2017, Numberblocks has become a global phenomenon, airing on CBeebies in the UK and Netflix worldwide. The series has won multiple awards, including a BAFTA Children's Award for Best Pre-School Animation, and has expanded into educational apps and merchandise. This success demonstrates Blue Zoo's ability to produce content that both entertains and informs young audiences, bringing numbers to life in a way that resonates with children, parents, and educators alike.
