At Blue Zoo, how we treat people matters as much as the work we make. We respect and support human rights across everything we do, from our own studios to the partners we work with and the audiences we make content for.

We are guided by the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the ILO core labour standards, and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. We work to avoid harming human rights, and to put things right if we ever contribute to harm.

Who this covers

  • Our people, the employees who make Blue Zoo what it is.
  • The freelancers and contractors we work with, who deserve fair treatment, safe working conditions and prompt payment.
  • Our suppliers and partners, who we ask to uphold the same standards, set out in our Supplier Code of Conduct.
  • The communities affected by our work, and the young audiences we create content for.

What we commit to

  • Fair pay. We are a Real Living Wage employer, and we provide safe, healthy working conditions for everyone who works with us.
  • Dignity and respect. We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment or victimisation, and we support everyone's freedom of association.
  • No forced or child labour. We work to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chain.
  • Fair freelancer terms. We engage freelancers on clear, written terms and pay them promptly.
  • Responsible content. We think carefully about representation and impact in what we make, and aim for inclusive, non-harmful storytelling.
  • A safe way to speak up. Anyone, inside or outside Blue Zoo, can raise a human-rights concern with us confidentially and without fear of reprisal.

How we identify and act on risks

Each year we look at where the greatest human-rights risks sit across our operations and supply chain. For a UK animation studio, those are mainly freelancer working hours and pay, labour standards deeper in our supply chain (such as hardware, merchandise and outsourced production), and representation in the content we produce. Where we find a problem we have contributed to, we act to fix it.

Our goals

  • By 2027, we will have asked all of our key suppliers to confirm they meet human-rights and labour standards, through our Supplier Code of Conduct.
  • We engage every freelancer on written terms that meet our fair-engagement standard.

Raising a concern

If you have a human-rights concern about Blue Zoo or anyone we work with, please tell us. You can contact us at info@blue-zoo.co.uk. We treat concerns confidentially, and no one will suffer any disadvantage for raising one in good faith.
